Internet ProviderInternet providerNowadays, most every one has heard the term used Internet provider, also called an ISP or an internet service provider. In short, an internet provider is a company that sells you access to the internet. Nowadays, internet providers are very competitive in their prices and there are so many types of ways to gain access to the internet. What use to be the most common service was dial-up service but more and more people are turning to DSL, broadband cable and even wireless or satellite internet services mainly for its higher speeds and its convenience.
Dial-up service was the first and most popular way to gain access to the internet. Even though, it surely is not the fastest for getting online it’s still very popular because most internet providers offer a dial up number for internet access in most any town or city across the United States, Canada and even around the world. For business men and anyone who travel it’s handy because where ever they may travel they can still gain access with the laptops and there usually won’t be any extra charges by their internet provider because they have local access numbers where ever you may go. Dial-up services no matter who you select as your internet provider are so simple to use. Usually each provider has a quick software program that you can download and then install and be online in just minutes. So how come there are so many different dial-up internet providers you may ask? Services providers buy bulk access from large backbone carriers like SBC and others and then offer the service to the subscribers in their areas. On the down side dial-up service will tie up your phone line so its best too have a second phone line if dial-up is the way you choose to go for internet access. These days DSL service is probably the most popular choice by home users and business mainly because it never ties up your telephone line and you are always connected to the internet. Just like dial-up telephone service is used only the internet connection is actually ran through the copper line in the phone line itself and then runs through a modem into your computer so you phone is never busy. Today DSL has become very affordable and in some cases you may find it as cheap as dial-up service plus your connection speed can be up to tens times faster than dial-up service. Now DSL speed can vary depending on how far a subscriber is from the terminal that he connects to. The closer you are the faster you will go but most DSL will connect at an avg speed of 1.5 Mbps and now you can even subscribe to upgraded DSL and get speeds up to 3 Mbps. On the down side DSL service is only available to the line where you subscribe to use it at so it’s not mobile like dial-up. Internet providers also offer internet connection by way of Broadband cable, which unlike DSL that uses the telephone line broadband internet access is provided or transmitted over your television cable and claims to be super fast. Just like DSL it does not interfere with your telephone, broadband doesn’t interfere with your TV viewing. It also uses a modem made for cable and then it is piped directly into your computer and many people simply rave about its internet speed. If you want high speed access check with your internet provider and you might
be surprised that high speed internet access can be very affordable. You can
get high speed internet access with DSL service, Broadband cable wireless or
